Firing on Fort Sumter
My sisters and I came down to Rainbow Row to watch. We so hope the southern troops are going to capture Fort Sumter. We didn't know what to expect. Lots of friends were there. Everyone was dressed like they were going to a garden party. We cheered every time the cannons blasted! It was very exciting. I don't think the ladies realized this was the beginning of a war and not a show put on for their benefit. After all, some of our boys might be killed!

ReplyDeleteI have never been so scared in my life. My son is fighting right now. My daughter is having the time of her life. The last thing I want is my son being out in that horrible war. How are people having a good time standing on roofs! Help us please.

ReplyDeleteI saw the whole thing happen! I was sitting on the roof and it looked like fire works. It was probably scary for the men over at Fort Sumter. My friend was up there with me and she said it blinded her.

ReplyDeleteWe didn't stop fighting because, Lincoln gave us supplies.I was worried about my family the whole time, but thinking about them made me fight even harder.I knew we were going to have to surrender, because they shot at us for 30 hours.I was right about us surrendering!
It was the scariest thing I ever saw. I hope my son doesn't die.I was so scared my son was still in there.The fight never ended.
